AI consulting and strategy for South African businesses
AI consulting is the work of finding out where artificial intelligence will genuinely pay off in a specific business — and where it will not — before any money is spent on tools. We do that work for companies in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban and across South Africa, from our base in Kempton Park, Gauteng.
Why start with consulting instead of a tool?
Most AI projects that fail do not fail on technology — they fail on selection. A business buys a capable tool for a problem it does not really have, or automates a process that should have been simplified first, and six months later the licence is still being paid and nobody is using the system. Independent consulting exists to prevent exactly that.
Because we are vendor-neutral, our recommendation is not attached to any product we resell. If an off-the-shelf tool you already pay for can do the job, we will say so. If nothing on the market fits and custom AI development is justified, we will say that too — and scope it honestly, in rand, before you commit.
What does AI consulting include?
- Use-case discovery: a structured review of how work actually moves through your business — sales, admin, reporting, approvals, customer service — to surface where AI, automation or predictive analytics can remove cost or unlock revenue
- Prioritisation by payback: candidate projects ranked by effort, risk and expected operational value, so the first thing you build is the thing most likely to prove the approach
- Tool and vendor selection: honest build-versus-buy advice, licence-cost realism, and scoping for custom AI development where nothing off the shelf fits
- A delivery roadmap: phases, owners, decision points and how success will be measured — a plan your team can execute, not a slide deck that gathers dust
- POPIA and data readiness: a check that the data each use case needs exists, is accessible, and can be processed lawfully
How a consulting engagement runs
-
Free strategy session
Thirty minutes to understand your operation and decide together whether a deeper engagement is worth your money. Many businesses leave this session with enough direction to act on their own.
-
Discovery workshops
Short, focused sessions with the people who actually run your processes — because the staff who live with a bottleneck know precisely where it hurts.
-
Roadmap and recommendation
A prioritised plan with tooling recommendations and effort estimates. It is yours to keep whether you build with us, in-house, or not at all.
Where does AI consulting fit?
A Johannesburg distributor with twenty AI ideas and no way to choose can leave the strategy phase with the three that pay back fastest. A Gauteng manufacturer weighing up computer vision for quality control gets a grounded recommendation before committing budget. A Cape Town professional practice can pick tools it can afford to run, without being locked into a single vendor. And a business that suspects AI is over-hyped for its situation gets the rarest deliverable in this industry: an honest "not yet".
Common questions
Do we need an AI strategy before buying any tools?
If you have one clear, contained problem, sometimes not — a single well-chosen automation can come first and teach you a lot. But if you are weighing multiple ideas, signing longer contracts, or touching personal information, an independent view before the purchase order is almost always cheaper than the wrong subscription. The free strategy session is designed to tell you which situation you are in.
Is the advice really vendor-neutral?
Yes. We do not resell software or take referral commissions from tool vendors, so a recommendation to buy, build or wait carries no hidden incentive. Our interest is that the first project succeeds — because that is what leads to the second one.
